Translations & Descriptions

All descriptions visible on the user interface, either on the main or secondary screen, are stored in the localization.txt file. These can be freely modified and new ones can be added.

Location

You can find the file in the KinectSandbox\KinectSandbox_Data\StreamingAssets folder.

Structure

The file consists of lines of text separated by commas. The first line describes the structure of all the latter:

Id,en,pl,pt

The first expression is the ID of the item being described. It can be anything from an interface element (e.g. water_clear_button), to an information displayed on the screen (e.g. archeo_done_title), to an on-screen menu element (e.g. calib_scale_factor). Each part of the interface has its own prefix (e.g. calib – on-screen menu), which can help you to find the description you are looking for.

The next expressions are the element captions. The second is English, the third is the Polish translation and the fourth is Portuguese. The ones actually displayed in the application are defined in the GlobalSettings file (“Language”:”en”).

Adding Translations

To add your own translations, first add a language abbreviation to the first line, preceded by a comma. Then translate each additional line, using commas in front of the expressions. In some cases, word-for-word translations may lose the meaning of the parameter, so it is best to return to the application to check what a given expression describes. Be careful not to leave a line without a translation. In such a case an error message will be displayed instead of the label. After saving the localization file, change the language to your personal entry in the GlobalSettings file.

Adding Descriptions

There is one situation where it is necessary to add a new line of text to the localization file. This happens when you add your own subfolders to the colors, overlays, or Sandscape Secrets images folder. Without adding a description, your folder will be visible with an error message instead of the caption. Adding the description is really easy. Locate the part of the localization file that contains the application section you edited, for example, the Overlay Images:

0_maps,Maps,Mapki,Mapas
1_countries,Countries,Państwa,Países
2_flags,Flags,Flagi,Bandeiras

Insert a new line of text according to the following pattern: number_your folder name, english caption, polish caption, portugeese caption. Save the file and check the result in the application.
