Sandscape Secrets Images

Sandscape Secrets mode is based on a series of interlocking images. By manipulating the content and order of these images, you can create complex patterns and show the underlying correlations. The images can be constructed so that there are objects in a given location that relate to each other. For example, the first layer image could be the lid of a container, and the next the contents.

Location

You can find the images in KinectSandbox\KinectSandbox_Data\StreamingAssets\FadingLayers folder. Each image set is packed into a separate folder. They are then divided into thematic subfolders. If you decide to add your own files, pack them into a folder (new folder for each set of images) and upload them to one of the subfolders. Alternatively, you can create a new thematic subfolder or place your image set directly in the main folder. Files should be in .jpg or .png format.

The image set being used is defined in the currently loaded preset file, or chosen on the secondary screen (touchscreen/tablet).

Naming

In the settings… file you’ll find this line:

“DefaultLayers”: “0_Moods/0_Faces”, – name of the thematic subfolder and file set folder respectively.

All image sets are named according to the known pattern [0_images…, 1_images…, 2_images…]; to change the image set, in the settings… file you have to enter its full name and location; the same applies to the image sets and subfolders you created yourself; when choosing an image located outside the subfolders, simply drop the first part of the file description and remove the slash (DefaultLayers”: “0_thematic_subfolder/0_image_set_folder); within each of the image sets, the files should be named with numbers [0, 1, 2…] to ensure correct order; the first image [0] is projected at the very bottom; the last image is projected at the top.

When adding your own subfolders, consider adding captions to the localization file.

Parameters

In order for the images to be projected correctly, they must meet a few requirements. First, all images within a set should have the same resolution. They don’t have to be the same proportions as your sandbox, as they can be scaled and offset manually. However, it is best to keep them at the resolution of your projector (e.g. 1920x1080px) so that you can see the full image. Second, all images should have a non-transparent background. We recommend keeping the background the same color within a set unless you want it to be different for a specific purpose. Finally, keep a consistent naming pattern to ensure the correct layer order. Tip: Place a blank background image between layers to improve projection.
